Split Stone — Sunshine Coast

Split Stone is less of a product and more of a technique — the art of building a deep, textural, stone-like finish by hand.

It is bold, tactile and full of presence. Where Venetian plaster is polished and reflective, Split Stone is raw, sculptural and earthy. It gives a wall the feeling of carved stone, aged mineral, fractured rock or architectural relief — turning a flat surface into something with weight, shadow and movement.

This technique is especially meaningful to us, as our Split Stone finish won Artistic Finish at the 2025 Master Painters Association Awards.

The process begins with a selected base plaster, chosen depending on the level of texture, depth and movement we want to create. From there, the surface is built up by hand, shaped and worked until it carries the desired stone-like character. Once the texture is formed, we layer paints, pigments and glazes across the surface to create depth of colour, contrast and natural variation.

For our award-winning piece, we finished the surface with a gold wax, adding warmth, richness and that final flash of luxury. The result was a finish that felt ancient and contemporary at the same time — grounded like stone, but elevated with a crafted metallic glow.
